Trek Slash for Bike Park: Overkill or Perfectly Matched?

We spent three months taking the Slash to every major UK bike park. Here's whether 170mm of high-pivot enduro travel is the right choice — or if you'd be better served by something lighter.

How the Slash Performed

Bike Park Wales

Verdict: Near-perfect match. BPW's faster, rougher trails play directly to the Slash's strengths. The high-pivot design absolutely devours the root sections on trails like Rim Dinger and A470. On smoother flow trails, it's slightly overkill but never feels out of place.

Revolution Bike Park

Verdict: Ideal. Revolution's steep, rocky terrain is exactly what the Slash was designed for. The slack geometry keeps you composed on the steepest chutes, and 170mm laughs at the drops and rock gardens.

Innerleithen

Verdict: Excellent. The natural, tech-heavy trails of Innerleithen reward the Slash's capability. Where lighter bikes require perfect line choice, the Slash gives you the option to charge through mistakes.

Hamsterley & Forest of Dean

Verdict: Slight overkill. These centres have excellent trails but generally less extreme terrain. The Slash works fine, but you're carrying extra weight and travel that you rarely need. A Fuel EX would be more fun here.

The Uplift Advantage

At parks with uplift (BPW, Revolution), the Slash's climbing weakness is irrelevant. You're carried up and you point it down. This is where the bike truly shines — when climbing isn't part of the equation.

Is It Too Much Bike?

For BPW, Revolution, Innerleithen: No. The Slash is perfectly calibrated for these venues. For gentler centres (FoD, Cannock): Probably yes. A trail bike would be more engaging. For DH-specific tracks: Consider a proper DH bike if you're doing pure downhill runs.

Our Verdict

The Trek Slash is the perfect UK bike park bike for riders who want enduro capability with trail-bike pedalling (however reluctant). If your riding is predominantly park-based with uplift access, you won't find a better tool. If you pedal to earn your turns, consider the Fuel EX instead.
