Trek Slash 2026 Setup Guide: Suspension, Geometry & Tyre Pressure

The Slash is a weapon when set up right and a liability when it's not. Here's how to dial yours in for UK conditions.

Suspension Setup

Fork (170mm Travel)

Starting point for a 75kg rider:

  • Air pressure: 72-78 psi
  • Rebound: 12 clicks from closed
  • Low-speed compression: 8 clicks from closed
  • High-speed compression: 2 turns from closed

Sag target: 25-28% (42-48mm)

Rear Shock (170mm Travel)

Starting point for a 75kg rider:

  • Air pressure: 195-210 psi (check your specific shock)
  • Rebound: 10 clicks from closed
  • Low-speed compression: 6 clicks from closed
  • High-speed compression: 1.5 turns from closed

Sag target: 28-30%

Geometry Adjustments

The 2026 Slash features a flip chip in the lower shock mount:

SettingHead AngleSeat AngleBB Drop
High63.5°77.5°30mm
Low63°77°35mm

For UK trail centres: High setting. Better pedalling efficiency on the transfers. For bike parks and steep natural terrain: Low setting. Extra stability at speed.

Tyre Pressure

For a 75kg rider on 2.5" tyres:

ConditionFrontRear
Dry hardpack24 psi26 psi
Mixed/roots22 psi24 psi
Wet/mud20 psi22 psi

Running inserts? Drop 2-3 psi from each.

Cockpit Setup

  • Bar width: 780-800mm is the sweet spot. Cut them down if you're riding tight trees.
  • Stem length: 40-50mm. The Slash isn't meant for long stems.
  • Bar roll: 7-9° backsweep works well with the steep seat angle

Dropper Post

Run it slammed. Maximum drop. There's no reason to leave travel on the table with modern long-drop posts. If your frame takes a 200mm dropper, use a 200mm dropper.

Common Mistakes

  1. Running too much air pressure because you're scared of bottoming out
  2. Not using enough low-speed compression, making the bike wallow in corners
  3. Forgetting to service suspension after muddy UK winter rides
  4. Running the low geometry setting for everything (it makes climbing painful)
