Sur-Ron Light Bee X 2026 vs 2025: What Changed & Is It Worth Upgrading?

TL;DR

The 2026 Light Bee X gets a significant powertrain upgrade: 72V 35Ah battery with 10kW peak power, up from the 2025's 60V 40Ah/8kW setup. Top speed increases to 80 km/h, 0-50 km/h drops to 5.9 seconds. Range is comparable despite the smaller capacity battery. Existing owners should consider the upgrade only if they want more power without aftermarket mods.

What Actually Changed

Direct Answer: The biggest change is the move from 60V to 72V, which brings approximately 25% more peak power and 18% more torque. The battery capacity dropped from 40Ah to 35Ah, but the higher voltage means energy content is actually similar (2.52 kWh vs 2.40 kWh).

Power Delivery

The 72V system delivers noticeably sharper acceleration. The 0-50 km/h time of 5.9 seconds doesn't sound dramatic on paper, but the midrange punch is where you feel the difference most — hill climbs and technical sections where torque matters.

Range Reality

Direct Answer: Despite the smaller Ah rating, real-world range is very similar between the two models. The 72V system is more efficient at converting stored energy to wheel power, offsetting the slightly smaller battery. Expect 25-35 miles of mixed riding on either model.

Should 2025 Owners Upgrade?

Direct Answer: Only if you specifically want more stock power without modifying your bike. If you've already installed a 72V conversion on your 2025, the new model doesn't offer anything you don't already have. If you're running stock, the 2026's extra power is the equivalent of a £1,200-£2,000 aftermarket conversion — for a price premium of only £400-£600.

Upgrade if:

  • You're still on stock 60V and want more power
  • Your 2025 has significant wear/mileage
  • You want the improved electronics without DIY

Skip if:

  • You've already done a 72V conversion
  • Your 2025 is well set-up with mods
  • Budget is tight (spend on upgrades instead)
